1. Microcrystalline structure and size of semi-brittle corundum:

The quality of semi-brittle corundum is primarily determined by its microcrystalline structure and size. Through microstructural analysis, we can evaluate the perfection of the eutectic structure, identify any presence of segregated phases, and determine whether these phases consist of zirconia or alumina. Moreover, the microstructure provides insights into crystal dimensions. Smaller crystal sizes increase participation in grinding units, leading to an extended abrasive lifespan.

The perfection of the microcrystalline structure and adequacy of crystal size in semi-brittle corundum eutectic largely rely on the cooling rate during abrasive smelting. A faster cooling rate yields well-formed microcrystalline structures with minimal phase separation and smaller crystal sizes.Conversely, a slower cooling rate results in subopt.

2. Content of zirconium oxide in semi-crystalline corundum:

The stability of semi-brittle corundum's quality is primarily determined by the zirconia content. We acknowledge that fluctuations in product grinding performance arise from variations in abrasive hardness and toughness, which stem from microstructural changes due to phase separation resulting in particle reinforcement or stress concentration. Therefore, controlling phase separation becomes crucial for maintaining consistent product quality.

3. Particle Size Composition:

The particle size composition of semi-brittle corundum abrasives differs from the national standard. In comparison to the national standard, well-known brands of semi-brittle corundum abrasives exhibit higher proportions of coarse and basic particles in specific particle size grades.

The production of semi-brittle corundum involves the use of high-quality alumina as a raw material, followed by adjusted smelting techniques and proportions based on the sub-white corundum smelting process. After being melted at temperatures above 2100℃ in an electric arc furnace, it undergoes a special fragmentation treatment method. Semibrittle corundum, a novel abrasive material, exhibits intermediate brittleness and toughness between white corundum and brown corundum, hence its name. It possesses advantages such as high-temperature resistance, corrosion resistance, impact resistance, low porosity rate, and stable thermal properties. Its particles have excellent self-sharpening characteristics that enable precise polishing without causing significant damage to the workpiece. With subsequent processing steps, its relative wear resistance increases significantly. This material is particularly suitable for polishing sensitive non-ferrous metal materials with lower hardness such as aluminum, copper, zinc, and lead; as well as non-metallic materials like wood and plastic. It finds wide application in the production of bonded abrasive products.

4. Application:

The application scope encompasses the production and manufacturing of ceramic abrasives, resin abrasives, and coated abrasives. The resulting bonded abrasives exhibit exceptional durability, self-sharpening ability, and retention. When processing specific workpieces under similar conditions, they outperform brown corundum, white corundum, chrome corundum, and single-crystal corundum in terms of surface quality, processing efficiency, and abrasive durability. Utilizing this material for rough grinding enhances processing efficiency while fine polishing elevates the surface quality of workpieces.
